End of June Update
Wow, I can’t believe it has been almost 5 months since our last post on this blog! I feel guilty for not being more transparent with the operations around the Fly Shop lately. Obviously quite a bit has happened in that time span. The tough news is that we have all been dealing with the same health concerns as everyone else in the world, but the good news is it’s given us a good opportunity to spend some quality time on the water, and hopefully you have done the same. April and most of May have been trying for the Fly Fishing industry, and we have a long way to go, but with more and more manufacturers getting back to work we have a good reason to remain positive. Our community (local and national) has done some great things to help support each other through all of this and we are happy to be part of that.
One of the prominent things about getting outdoors and fly fishing - it has “social distancing” innately built in. All of us fly fishers could have coined that term long ago, we are the poster child "social distancer” if that’s a term… and I was reminded that the other morning. I had a few hours before work so I grabbed my 3WT Orvis Recon and headed to the Blanco River. Completely alone with only a noisy Peacock, a few inquisitive Larks, and plenty of eager fish to keep me company, it was a quiet and relaxing morning on the water.
Summer Hours at the Fly Shop are currently Wednesday - Saturday 9a-4p but we continue to run guided Fly Fishing trips 7 days a week. If you do choose to visit us, and we really hope you do, please be mindful of all of the current trends with social distancing and face masks. We have some new inventory on the way with the new Lowcountry palm leaf hats coming in from Fishpond, a large order of Echo Fly Rods and Combos, new sun shirts and hoodies from Free Fly, a big restock of summer flies for Bass, Panfish, Carp and anything else you’d want to catch, new lines from Cortland, and finally *drum roll some new fly tying supplies in route!
We will be on the water July 3rd and close for July 4th but we will be back to our regular hours on July 8th. Look for a San Marcos and Blanco River update soon!
